TYNDALE HOUSE ACQUIRES GAYLE HAGGARD’S BOOK
Tyndale House Publishers is to publish a memoir by Gayle Haggard, wife of the former president of the National Association of Evangelicals, Ted Haggard.
In Why I Stayed, to be released in January 2010, she will share a message of forgiveness and love regarding her husband, also the founder and ex-senior pastor of New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colo.--whose confession to sexual immorality in November 2006 led to his downfall.
"When we met with Gayle, we realized God was already using her story to touch the lives of thousands of people," said Jon Farrar, Tyndale's nonfiction acquisition director. "We knew this story needed to be heard in its entirety. It's an amazing story of the choices Gayle made in her darkest hours and how less-than-perfect people everywhere desperately need a community that provides healing and a path to restoration."
After reading the manuscript, Tyndale President Mark Taylor said he "was very moved by Gayle's story. It is a beautiful-though heart-wrenching-story of how (with the grace of God) she chose to love Ted, save her marriage and protect her family."
Tyndale will launch Why I Stayed, to be co-written by Angela Hunt, with a national promotional campaign, including an author tour.
ABOUT GAYLE
Gayle Haggard is a speaker, teacher and the wife of Ted Haggard, the former president of the National Association of Evangelicals and pastor of New Life Church in Colorado Springs. From 1985 through 2006, Ted and Gayle grew New Life Church from a handful of people meeting in the basement of their home into a congregation of 14,000 members. Gayle directed women's ministries, teaching women of all ages and overseeing 150 women's small groups. In the fall of 2006, she launched a ministry called Women Belong, a ministry which taught women that they should never feel alone, because we all belong to God and to each other. Soon after, everything Gayle believed and taught was put to the test. On November 1, 2006, her husband was accused of having a secret life, involving infidelity and illicit drugs, and her world came crashing in on her.“In a few short days," Gayle says, "my life as I had known it, that I had so lovingly embraced, was demolished.” Three years later, Gayle and her husband of thirty-one years emerged from their crisis with their marriage and family intact, ready to rebuild their lives. Because of what they have learned from this experience, they now feel that they are better people and better Christians, and that their marriage and family are stronger than ever. In addition to Why I Stayed, Gayle is the author of A Life Embraced: A Hopeful Guide for the Pastor’s Wife. Today Gayle and Ted reside in Colorado Springs with their five children and one grandchild.
